Nordic Republicans visited Laponia, a world heritage site
I recently visited Laponia, a world heritage site located in the far north of Sweden.
Laponia is a beautiful location that embodies three national parks in Sweden. I went to one of the most visited parts of Laponia, known as Stora Sjöfallet. This location features a body of water, a waterfall, gorgeous views of snow topped mountains and a famous structure known as Naturum Laponia.
Naturum Laponia houses a small movie viewing room, a cafe, gift shop, arts and crafts room and museum. The museum features general information about vegetation, wildlife, geography, as well as the indigenous Sami people. There is even a adult sized stuffed reindeer. Visitors are able to view the museum and enjoy coffee and snacks from the cafe while looking out a large window towards the waterfall.
Outside the structure are paths made of wood planks that allow people to walk out and view the wildlife without walking on the terrain. Up the road is a small hotel called Stora Sjöfallet that offers accommodations for visitors who would like a comfortable nights stay and have access to quality food and a small convenient store.
A few miles further up the road is a path where visitors can actually walk to the waterfall and see it up close. This path is completely on terrain and can be treacherous for those who have difficulty with somewhat strenuous hiking.
Altogether it is a fabulous location and a must see when visiting Swedish Lapland in the summer! Be sure to check for opening hours, since Naturum Laponia tends to be open for a certain part of the year.
