Nordic Republicans President Lauren Ell in Copenhagen, Denmark

Nordic Republicans’ President visited the beautiful city of Copenhagen

Nordic Republicans’ President & Founder Lauren Ell visited Copenhagen, Denmark, during November 24-26, 2018 for leisure. Here is her description of exploring Copenhagen..

This was my third time visiting Copenhagen, though my longest time being there. I visited Copenhagen twice in 2007 when I was a Rotary International Youth Exchange Student, though only for a couple hours each time. This time I was able to observe the city in more depth over the period of a few days.

While there, I stayed in the city core. I visited the world famous amusement park Tivoli, the National Museum of Denmark and the popular tourist destination Nyhavn. I also strolled through a number of lively Christmas markets placed throughout the city core.

I loved seeing people riding their bikes in Copenhagen. The large cycling community gave Copenhagen a more lively and social feel compared to Stockholm. I actually had to learn to look first for bikes when crossing a street, and then for cars. Cyclists ride their bikes fast, so you do not want to be in their way.

When I first arrived at Copenhagen airport, I purchased a tourist travel ticket that covered all train and bus transportation in the city for 48 hours (a person can choose 24, 48 or 72 hours). The train system was difficult to navigate at first since there is no direct route to the central station when using the metro, surprisingly. A person must transfer to a different train system from the metro to get the central station, which requires going up to the surface, crossing the street, and then going down to the “S-tog” system. There is a train that goes directly from the airport to central station, but it runs less frequently. The tourist ticket helps correct any mistakes made when navigating the transportation system.

Altogether I had a wonderful time visiting the cozy city of Copenhagen. It was considerably cold and drab at the end of November, but manageable. It is a much nicer city to visit in the summer, as is all of Scandinavia.
