Federal Voting Assistance Program

Yes you can vote abroad if you are a U.S. citizen and are over 18 years old!

American citizens and military abroad can register to vote and order an absentee ballot through the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP), a non-partisan entity.

To register to vote and order an absentee ballot, go to the website www.fvap.gov and select the state your address is located in. You must have your last place of residence in the United States.

Once there, you can then register to vote, request a ballot or update your voter information.

To do this you have the option to:

(1) use your state’s online registration tool

(2) use FVAP’s registration services or

(3) print a hard copy voter registration and absentee ballot request, otherwise known as a Federal Post Card Application (FPCA), and send to your election office.

Requirements to vote abroad are to be a U.S. citizen, be at least 18 years old, and be absent from your voting residence.

Additionally FVAP provides options for you to obtain your ballot and check the status of your voted ballot.

NOTE: Americans living abroad must register to vote every year.
